FRC reveals new board
The former chief executive of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Eric Anstee, and the
former chairman of KPMG International, Michael Rake, are among the
seven new non-executive directors of the UK Financial Reporting
Council (FRC). The new board, which will consist of 16 members,
will come into being on 1 November.

Maxwell named chairman of Forum of Firms
David Maxwell, Grant Thornton UK’s national management board
partner, has been elected as chairman of the Forum of Firms. The
forum was established in 2001 as part of the structure of the
International Federation of Accountants. It aims to promote IFRS
and IAS and encourage consistently high quality standards of
financial reporting and audits worldwide. Maxwell, who was the
managing partner of RSM Robson Rhodes before it merged with Grant
Thornton UK, takes up the position immediately and will serve a
three-year term. He is also the retiring chairman of the European
Grouping of International Accounting Networks.

M&A lawyer to head ASIC
A highly experienced lawyer in mergers and acquisitions has been
appointed as the Australian Securities and Investments Commission
(ASIC) commissioner. Belinda Gibson, a specialist in corporate and
securities law, begins her new role in November. She replaces ASIC
commissioner Jeffrey Lucy, who will depart after four-and-a-half
year’s service. Lucy has resigned to become chairman of the
Australian Financial Reporting Council in December.

UHY elects new chairman
UHY International revealed that John Wolfgang has taken over as
global chairman from Ladislav Hornan. Wolfgang is the managing
director of US firm UHY Advisers NY and was one of the founding
board members of UHY International at its formation in 1986.
