The International Valuation Professional Board
(IVPB) is seeking comments on proposals related to the definition
of a valuer and the ethical responsibilities of professional
valuers.

The discussion paper Definition of a
Professional Valuer is aimed at enhancing public awareness of the
valuation profession and the desired attributes of a professional
valuer.

The exposure draft Proposed Code of Ethics for
Professional Valuers addresses the ethical responsibilities of
professional valuers.

IVPB chairman Brad Wagar said that following
the global financial crisis, change is more frequent and complex,
making it timely for the board to define the ‘professional
valuer’.

“It is our intention that this discussion
paper, along with the companion Code of Ethics exposure draft, will
afford both valuers and non-valuers the opportunity to shape the
expectations for the future of the global valuation profession,”
Wager said.

Both documents are available on the
International Valuation Standards Council website.
