The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), have signed a MoU.
This is a recognition of both organisations’ commitment to diversity and inclusion in the accounting profession and marketplace.
ALPFA is the first Latino professional association in the United States, therefore the MoU expands IMA’s relationship with ALPFA further.
Signing of the MoU allows for both organisations to collaborate and be able to partner on joint webinars, speaking engagements, and thought leadership focusing on diversity, certification and the accounting profession.
IMA’s director of diversity and inclusion Linda Devonish-Mills said: “Diversity and inclusion needs to be a priority for all employers and professionals to remain relevant with employees.
“At IMA, embracing diversity is a priority for us and our diverse membership base, volunteer leadership, and staff. The partnership with ALPFA is in alignment with IMA’s strategy to develop a diverse leadership pipeline and increase awareness about IMA and the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential.

By GlobalData“The partnership has already proven beneficial with our exhibiting at the organisation’s annual convention over the summer and interacting with students and professionals in the industry.”
In 2015 the global directors of IMA approved the organisation to move forward with a diversity and inclusion initiative.
Speaking to IAB in September, Devonish-Mills said it was organisations like ALPFA, “which focus on providing support for specific ethnicities within the accounting profession, where we need to establish relationships which will help with our goal of diversifying our membership.”
ALPFA’s CEO Damian Rivera said: “I’m proud that ALPFA is intensely focused on creating career opportunities for, and exponentially developing, Latino talent in finance and accounting at all levels, from an aspiring young intern to a superbly talented executive working with one of our corporate partners.
“Partnering with IMA is essential to our commitment to finance and accounting, which our organization was founded on. We're excited to connect our community of dedicated, diverse, and talented professionals to IMA's global network and leverage our passion for leadership and professional development to benefit our mutual goals.”
