Strengthening support for small companies and
the accounting firms that serve them was one of the key issues
discussed at a meeting between the chief executives of more than 40
accountancy organisations, convened by the International Federation
of Accountants (IFAC) recently.

The chief executives’ top recommendations to
assist SMEs and small- and medium-sized accounting practices (SMPs)
were:

  • Expand monitoring of global regulatory reform
    to ensure its suitability for SMEs and SMPs;
  • Increase the visibility and voice of SMEs and SMPs; and,
  • Collaborate with IFAC members to develop
    guides and resources to provide practical assistance to SMPs.
