Mark Protherough has become the new
executive director for learning and professional development at the
Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Protherough has been acting in the role since Raymond Madden left
the institute seven months ago.
Since joining the ICAEW in 2005, Protherough
has been responsible for the strategic development and
implementation of the ACA qualification as well as the operational
management of the department.
“My main achievement was the development of
the new ACA in 2007,” Protherough said. “That was what I was bought
in specifically to do.”
Prior to joining the ICAEW, Protherough was
managing director for education, training and development at the
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Other career highlights include being a member
of the international advisory panel for the development of the
Chinese CPA qualification in 2008 and working on the Global
Accounting Alliance reciprocity project between 2005 and 2007.
