John Sunderland has been appointed chairman of
the UK Financial Reporting Council’s (FRC) corporate governance
committee.

Sunderland is a seasoned business man, a
former president of the Confederation of British Industry and
currently a director at the FRC.

Sunderland began a career at Cadbury in 1968
and was appointed chief executive of Cadbury Schweppes in September
1996 and then chairman in May 2003. He retired from the company in
2008.

Sunderland has served as a task force member
on Accounting for People, a team who assess human capital
management in financial reporting.

He is also a non-executive director of
Barclays and a past president of the UK Food and
Drink Federation and the Incorporated Society of British
Advertisers.

The FRC corporate governance committee
monitors the operation of the Combined Code on Corporate Governance
and reviews developments in UK corporate governance.
