Audit is considered a highly attractive career due to its training and industry exposure in the ASEAN region, according to a survey by the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Audit Regulators Group (AARG).

The survey, that was presented at a meeting between the ASEAN AARG, representatives from the Regulatory Working Group of the Global Public Policy Committee and the six largest international accounting networks in the region, however, found auditors lacked career satisfaction due to the heavy workload compared to rewards.

It is also believed the increasingly heavy workload is connected to the need for clients to improve quality of management accounts while still charging relatively low fees.

The meeting participants agreed addressing these challenges is necessary if the profession is to meet expectations from investors as they seek more information in a complex business environment.

AARG also met with regional leaders of the Big-Four audit firms separately in order to discuss common issues.

AARG comprises of Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, Malaysia’s Auditor Oversight Board, and Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission.
