The Association of Chartered Certified
Accountants (ACCA) has grown its member and student numbers.

The ACCA now has 140,000 members, which
reflects growth of 6.5% since 31 December 2008.

Student numbers have increased by 10% from
366,000 to 404,000.

The ACCA claims the rise reflects the growing
need for professional accountants, especially in current global
economic conditions.

Last year, ACCA opened offices in Belgium,
Bangladesh, China and Macau.

It also began collaborative work with major
organisations such as KPMG, the Global Reporting Initiative,
Economic and Social Research Council and the International
Association for Accounting Education and Research.
