Bank payment company GoCardless has expanded its partnership with cloud accounting software provider Big Red Cloud, to streamline payments for accountants and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The integration of GoCardless’ payment capabilities into the Big Red Cloud platform, an existing GoCardless customer, will allow the latter to join the ranks of more than 350 partners.

This development will enable Big Red Cloud customers to use direct debit for automatic collection and reconciliation of recurring payments directly within their accounting software.

The integration aims to assist accountants and SMEs in reducing late payments and bad debt.

In addition, it is expected to free up time for accountants, allowing them to concentrate on client-facing activities.

GoCardless chief growth officer Jolawn Victor said: “We believe accountants should be successful because of the valuable advice and services they provide to clients.

“Building on our relationship with Big Red Cloud enables us to bring faster, cheaper and more secure payments to our joint merchants and their customers, freeing up time for accountants who can take payments off their list and get back to serving their clients.”

Big Red Cloud CEO Marc O’Dwyer said: “Our goal is to simplify financial management for accountants, and a large part of that is making sure they have access to the latest payment technology.

“By partnering with innovators like GoCardless, we’re able to deliver – and we know first-hand how it revolutionises the payment experience for the better.”

Big Red Cloud plans to introduce GoCardless’ Instant Bank Pay, an open banking-powered payment feature, later in 2024.

This feature will offer an alternative method to accountants for processing instant, one-off payments, eliminating the high fees typically associated with traditional card transactions.

In October 2024, GoCardless and Pipe announced a partnership aimed at reshaping capital access for businesses in the UK.

Under this collaboration, the customer-friendly capital offering of Pipe will be made accessible through the GoCardless platform.
