The Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), in partnership with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), has introduced the COSO Fraud Risk Management Certificate programme.
This new certification, provided via the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Institute of Management Accountants, aims to bolster professional expertise in fraud risk management.
The certificate programme is grounded in the Fraud Risk Management Guide, which was first released in 2016 and expanded in 2023.
It encompasses an approach to fraud risk, with the second edition of the guide detailing five essential principles for an effective fraud risk management programme.
COSO executive director and chair Lucia Wind said: “Managing fraud risk is a challenge for organisations of all sizes.
“This programme provides professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to build strong anti-fraud controls, risk assessments and programmes, ultimately strengthening organisational resilience and fostering a culture of integrity.”

Participants in the programme will have access to self-paced learning modules and will need to pass a certifying exam.
Successful completion will result in an official COSO Fraud Risk Guide Certificate and Digital Badge.
Programme highlights include practical strategies for applying COSO’s fraud risk management framework, best practices for fraud deterrence, detection, and response, as well as the integration of fraud risk management with internal controls and data analytics.
Additionally, the programme offers case studies and real-world applications to enhance learning.
ACFE president John Gill said: “In continuing our partnership with COSO our organisations form a united front against fraud.
“The ACFE is pleased to join forces once again to develop this new certificate that will assist professionals in navigating fraud risks, as well as continue guiding organisations in establishing a comprehensive and effective fraud risk management programme.”
This initiative follows COSO’s collaboration with the National Association of Corporate Directors in 2024, which saw PwC US awarded a Professional Services Agreement to assist COSO in developing a corporate governance framework.
