The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) has rolled out two language-focused educational projects: the School of Business Languages, aimed at the corporate sector; and StepUp English, a nationwide programme for students.
The School of Business Languages aims to equip chartered accountants, corporate executives and other individuals with communication skills, linguistic proficiency and cross-cultural competence.

CA Sri Lanka said the school reflects the growing importance of skills beyond “technical expertise”, as professionals increasingly need to communicate effectively, understand cultural contexts and work across borders.
The school will begin operations with two courses: the Foundation in Chinese for Business Professionals, scheduled to start in September 2026, followed by Business English for Professionals in October 2026.
Subsequent offerings will include Arabic Language for Business Professionals and French Language for Business Professionals.
Alongside the professional courses, the accountancy body has established StepUp English, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project for students aged 15 and older across Sri Lanka.
The initiative is intended to broaden access to English language education across the island “free of charge”, the statement said.
CA Sri Lanka president Tishan Subasinghe said: “Through the School of Business Languages, we are broadening the horizons of our students and members and empowering them to engage with the world with greater confidence.
“As a national body, we have a responsibility to equip the next generation with the skills and confidence to embrace the opportunities ahead.
“StepUp English is our contribution towards making English language learning more accessible to young Sri Lankans across the country and helping them build a stronger foundation for the future.”
Last month, CA Sri Lanka and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance collaboration between the accounting and legal professions.
