Roy Chimanikire has been elected president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ), replacing Bothwell Nyajeka whose two-year long tenure came to an end in 2015.
Chimanikire was elected in the professional body’s recent council election. ICAZ CEO Matts Kunaka told The Accountant that the appointment is effective from 7 August, when ICAZ held its Annual General Meeting in Dubai.
Chimanikire is group chief financial officer of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, a subsidiary of Econet, an international telecommunications group. Prior to joining the company in 2009 he was a partner at Deloitte.
The new senior vice-president is Gloria Zvaravanhu who works as general manager of corporate services for NicozDiamond, an insurance company listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange. Martin Makaya, a parter at BDO Zimbabwe, was elected junior vice-president.
Chimanikire is also a board member of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB) and the Zimbabwe Accounting Practices Board (ZAPB).
PAAB is the Zimbabwean profession’s regulatory and oversight body, and ZAPB is the national standard-setter.
Zimbabwe’s accountancy profession is reputed as being one of the most developed in the African continent. ICAZ has 1,767 members.
