The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and
the Institute of Indirect Taxation (IIT) will merge as a result of
a vote cast by the members of the two institutes this month.

The merger will complete in July
this year and the IIT will join CIOT under its name, aiming to
bring together both expertise and resources.

“Indirect taxes are a fast growing area of
practice. By bringing together the expertise and the resources
within the CIOT and IIT we believe we will strengthen the
technical, CPD [Continuing Professional Development] and
educational offerings to members and students of both bodies,” CIOT
president Patrick Stevens said.

IIT Chairman Bob Davies said by coming
together the two institutes will create a prominent player in the
world of indirect taxation.

CIOT is a charity and the leading professional
body in the UK concerned solely with taxation. The IIT is the pre
eminent professional body for those specialising in indirect
taxation.
