The three Spanish professional accounting
bodies have signed an agreement to merge into one organisation
known as the Instituto de Auditores de España.

The new organisation will bring together the
Instituto de Censores Jurados de Cuentas de España (ICJCE), the
Consejo General de Colegios de Economistas de España (CGCEE) and
the Consejo Superior de Colegios Oficiales de Titulares Mercantiles
de España.

A special ‘tripartite’ commission has been
established to start the process leading to the merger and the
eventual creation the new institute in two years time.

CGCEE president Valentín Pich said the reasons
behind the decision include the complex economic situation; Michel
Barniers EC audit reform proposals; recent Spanish regulation; the
request of clarity by citizens; and, the development of more audit
practice sectors such as the public sector and non-governmental
organisation.

“The joint work of the three organisations has
made us stronger and more credible and integration is the
accomplishment of an aspiration of many years,” ICJCE president
Rafael Cámara said.
