Munter will lead the office’s activities on international matters which involves working with various international organisations including the International Organisation of Securities Commissions, the International Accounting Standards Board, and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board.
He recently retired from KPMG where he served as the lead technical partner for the US firm’s international accounting and IFRS activities. He currently joins the SEC from the University of Colorado Boulder where he was a senior instructor of accounting.
Commenting on his appointment, Munter said: "I am honoured to have the opportunity to return to work at the Commission and I am excited to serve with the professionals in the Office of the Chief Accountant who have deep expertise and experience on international matters. I also look forward to working with our foreign counterparts to continue to advance high-quality financial reporting on behalf of investors.”
Vanosdall will lead the activities of the office’s accounting group, which include understanding investor and other perspectives on accounting matters as well as consulting with public companies, auditors, and divisions and offices within the SEC on the application of accounting standards and financial disclosure requirements.
Additionally, Vanosdall will assist the office in assisting to discharge the SEC’s oversight of the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
Commenting on Vanosdall’s appointment, SEC chief accountant Sagar Teotia said: "I am appreciative and very excited that John has agreed to return to the Office of the Chief Accountant to oversee the accounting group. John's diverse experiences in public accounting and as a professional accounting fellow at the SEC combined with his deep technical knowledge on accounting matters will be extremely valuable as we work closely with various stakeholders on challenging accounting and disclosure matters."
