The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Daniel Murdock as deputy chief accountant and Mark Kronforst as chief accountant of the regulator’s corporation finance division.

Murdock will head the accounting group of the chief accountant’s office, which advises the SEC on accounting and auditing matters such as the application of accounting standards and financial disclosure requirements.

Before joining the SEC, Murdock worked at Deloitte US where he served as an industry professional practice director focusing on audit work and technical accounting issues.

"His expertise in financial reporting will be a valuable resource to our office, this agency, and investors," SEC chief accountant Paul Beswick said.

Murdock succeeds Beswick after he was promoted to the role of chief accountant in December 2012.

The accounting group is one of three in the office of the chief accountant. The other two are the professional practice group and the international group, headed by deputy chief accountants, Brian Croteau and Julie Erhardt respectively.

Corporation finance division
Kronforst worked as an associate director for disclosure operations at the SEC prior to taking on the role of chief accountant of the SEC’s division of corporation finance.

Prior to joining the SEC, Kronforst served an audit senior manager at KPMG US.

"His skills and experiences will serve us well as we address important financial reporting issues," SEC division of corporate finance director Keith Higgins said.

Kronforst succeeds Craig Olinger, who was the division’s acting chief accountant and will continue to serve as its deputy chief accountant.
