Matteo Tonell has been appointed to the advisory council of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).

Tonell, who is currently the managing director of corporate leadership at research group The Conference Board (CB), has joined the standard setter on the back CB’s 2010 initiative on sustainability, which provided a benchmark of industry and company size based peer comparisons across more than 70 corporate sustainability practises.

"In a rapidly evolving area like sustainability, our members and the wilder community increasingly demand accurate and reliable sources so that their investments on new practises are efficient and fully relevant," Tonello said.

"For this reason, we support SASB’s mission to assess the materiality of sustainability issues and standardise industry-specific reporting."

The SASB is a non-profit organisation, which aims to develop sustainable measurement and reporting standards for publicly held companies in the US.
