The South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) has announced that 271 candidates have successfully passed their professional evaluation exam, out of which 163 were black.

SAIPA education, training and membership executive Rashied Small announced that 363 qualifying candidates had written the exam, of which 235 (65%) were black,  and overall 75% had passed while passing rate amongst black candidates was 69%.

Small attributed the increase in the pass rate of the professional evaluation exam to SAIPA’s Project Achiever. The project is a joint initiative with the Finance and Accounting services Sector Education and Training Authority (Fasset), and aims at advancing transformation in the professional accounting industry.

“The programme yields four candidates in the top 10 for the May 2017 exam, including the 2nd best candidates. To date, four groups have attended the Project Achiever program, totalling 577 candidates achieving pass rates between 74% and 89%,” Small said.
