The Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accounts (LICPA) elected Steven Seimavula, an audit manager at PKF Liberia, as their new president.

Upon his election, Seimavula said to local media that while accounting is a trustworthy profession, its practice in Liberia had lapses.

The institute currently counts 83 members and Seimavula targets to reach 700 to 800 members in the course of his presidency. He said he will tackle the fact that many students graduate every year in accounting but there is still a shortage of professional accountants in Liberia.

LICPA also elected their vice chairman, Victor Tanwone, who said that working alongside Seimavula he wanted to institute to lobby the government to make it a legal requirement for the finance minister and the comptroller generals to be certified by LICPA and other professional accounting institutions.
