The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has appointed Tomas Balco as the head of its transfer pricing unit in the centre for tax policy and administration, effective in September of this year.

A former academic with Czech and Slovak nationality, Balco has served as general counsel and head of the international tax unit and the transfer pricing team at the Slovak’s ministry of finance (MoF) since 2014.

Before joining the MoF, Balco was a professor at Kimep University as well as a visiting professor and lecturer in other universities across Europe and at the African Tax Institute at University of Pretoria. He also served as the director for Central Asian Tax Research Centre in Kazakhstan.

He worked in a number of other roles with Deloitte and PwC, the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation, the International Tax Units of the governments of the Czech Republic and Chile, and the European Commission’s directorate-general for taxation and customs union.
