The Institute of Management accountants (IMA) has appointed Linda Devonish-Mills as its first director of diversity and inclusion.

The newly created position is intended to help the IMA guide the integration of diversity and inclusion into every aspect of IMA’s member and corporate experience.

Devonish-Mills has been a member of IMA since 2006 and previously held the role of director of technical accounting activities.

At the same time Virginia ‘Ginger’ White has started her role as IMA’s chair, which is the organisations most senior volunteer role. White is the fifth woman to hold the position of chair.

At the IMA’s annual conference in Indianapolis, The Accountant spoke to White, who was then chair elect about her plans. White commented: “I will probably start to work more with the other professional accounting associations. That is where I see myself working more, and trying to collaborate and look at how we can work together to make the profession the best it can be at this pivotal time.”

IMA president and CEO Jeff Thomson said: “It’s of upmost importance to IMA that each and every one of our stakeholders, regardless of personal background, experience an inclusive environment not just with IMA, but also within their own organizations. Ginger and Linda are two individuals who are dedicated to furthering that reality and we are grateful for their service to the profession.”
