The Institute of Certified Public Accountants
of Singapore (ICPAS) has launched a life-long learning certificate
aimed at improving auditors’ technical skills and expertise.

ICPAS said the new certificate, Professional
Certificate in Audit Skills, is in line with the Singapore
government’s vision to develop Singapore into a global accountancy
hub by 2020.

The certificate will focus on audit planning,
audit testing, audit completion and audit reporting.

In support of ICPAS’s programme ‘Singapore’s
Employment and Employability Institute’ will offer subsidies aimed
at encouraging auditors to upgrade their skills, especially for
those working in small and medium-sized practices.

ICPAS’s head of continuing professional
education John Lim said the role of an auditor has evolved rapidly
in recent years.

“Corporations are responding to this by
demanding higher audit competencies. ICPAS’ Professional
Certificate in Audit Skills, designed in accordance with global
auditing standards and industry needs, will not only sharpen the
audit expertise of the participants but also improve their
employability,” he said.
