The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has elected Mark Rhys as vice-president, taking over the role from Julia Penny in June 2021.

Rhys is currently an audit partner with Deloitte and has 30 years of experience in banking audit. He was the first chair of ICAEW’s Financial Services Faculty and currently chairs the Institute’s Technical Strategy Board.  He is also a member of the Prudential Regulation Authority’s Practitioner Panel and sits on Sir Donald Brydon’s Auditors’ Advisory Group.

Commenting on his appointment, Rhys said: “I am delighted to be elected the new ICAEW Vice-President and will look to use my 30 years of experience to represent the accountancy profession. My priorities will revolve around ensuring quality, delivering meaningful audit reform, creating a diverse and inclusive industry, and importantly, reinforcing trust in our profession. After all, accountants – whether they be tax advisors, auditors or other finance specialists – play a fundamental role in the UK and global economy.”
