The Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) and the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) plan to launch a member consultation on a new trans-Tasman Institute next month.

The two institutes said the new joint institute would be a way to reinforce the Chartered Accountant (CA) brand and provide the financial capacity to deliver enhanced education, thought leadership and products and services for members.

The decision on whether to take the proposal to a member vote through formal processes will be taken after the member consultation and a response review.

The development follows increased collaboration between the two professional bodies, including the development and launch of a joint CA programme in February this year.

A detailed member consultation document will be issued for member feedback on 7 May and a website about the proposed institute will be launched simultaneously.

The consultation will run from 7 May to 12 July.
