The Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) and the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) have launched a consultation on the Trans-Tasman Institute proposed last month.
The two institutes say the move will boost Closer Economic Relations, the free trade agreement between Australia and New Zealand signed in 1983.

NZICA president Liz Hickey said they did not "orchestrate" the proposal to coincide with the anniversary of CER, but it was "a good reminder that both countries have been collaborating in the interests of better business for many years".
She said the Trans-Tasman institute would "significantly improve" the education and tools available to members from both countries, and enable "the sharing of knowledge, and insight".
ICAA president Tim Gullifer said members would benefit "from a larger and more sustainable institute with greater scale, increased policy formulation and advocacy capability as well as global influence".
Deadline to comment on the proposal is 12 July. A vote is then expected to be between 1 October and 1 November.
To coincide with the launch of the consultation the two bodies also launched a website – One New Institute – detailing their aspirations for a merged institute.
