The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has
reported an upwards trend in sustainability reporting and an
increase in the use and awareness of its guidelines.

The organisation reported a 22% rise in the
number of GRI reports worldwide registered on its list. The total
number of reports in accordance with GRI guidelines increased to
1,818 in 2009/2010.

The GRI also reported a small increase in the
number of sustainability reports being assured although the number
is still low at 47%, with the lowest amount of assurance carried
out in the US. Despite the US producing the largest amount of
reports globally, only 16% get assured, according to the GRI.

The report also revealed positive reporting
trends in India where most of the reports are of a high standard
and assured.
