The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors of the UK and Ireland (CIIA) chief executive Ian Peters is to step down at the end of 2019 after ten years at the helm.

During his time in the role, Peters presided over the growth in the CIIA’s membership from 7,500 to more than 10,000. He also saw the introduction of the Financial Services Code, new qualifications and greater engagement with members, and the award of Chartered status to the Institute in 2010.

Peters said: “I have had the privilege of leading the CIIA for the last decade and in that time we have achieved much together.

“But after ten years at the helm I have had time to consider my personal priorities and I have decided that now is a good time to move on to new challenges and pass on the reins to others to lead the Institute through the next phase of its exciting future.”

CIIA president Paul Manning said: “On behalf of all our members, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ian for his dedicated service and commitment to the Institute.

“Over the past decade, he has been instrumental in raising the profile and standing of the profession and increasing its influence among our key stakeholders. I wish Ian every success for the future.
