The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has appointed In-Ki Joo as its new president and Alan Johnson as its deputy president.

Joo, who served as IFAC’s deputy president since November 2016, will serve for two years as president through November 2020. Joo is a professor emeritus of accounting at the Yonsei University School of Business in Seoul, South Korea. He has also served time on the board for the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Commenting on his appointment, Joo said: “I believe strongly in the potential of the profession to support the growth and stability of organisations, financial markets, and global economic progress. I am honoured and energised to lead IFAC during this time of great change and opportunity for our profession.

“In particular, I look forward to focusing on a future ready profession which harnesses the strength of its education platforms and commitment to ethics.”

Johnson is currently a non-executive director of the UK Department for International Development and chairs its Audit and Risk Assurance Committee. He also chairs the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants for Business Global Forum.

Previously, Johnson was CFO of Unilever’s global food business and also led Unilever’s global internal audit function.
