The Auditing and Assurance Standards Oversight Council (AASOC) has announced that Ken Charbonneau has been appointed as the chair of Canada's audit standard-setter authority the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB).

Charbonneau will serve a three year term from 1 April 2018 replacing current chair and EY partner Darrell Jensen, and a transition period will take place from January 2018. The AASOC oversees the AASB’s activities to serve the public interest and appoints its members, including the chair.

Charbonneau had recently retired from his assurance partner role at KPMG and he is the current chair of the Ottawa Senators Foundation’s Audit and Finance Committee. AASOC chair Bruce Winter stated that Charbonneau will help to ensure the development of independently set standards that respond to the needs of Canadian stakeholders.
