African institutes collaborate in a partnership for professionalization

By Stephanie Wix

The Organisation of English-speaking African Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) has partnered with the Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) and the East and Southern African Association of Accountants General (ESAAG) on an initiative to support professionalization efforts across Africa in both auditing and accounting in the public sector.

A development workshop was held in South Africa from 27-29 September 2017 to enhance the professionalization competency framework originally developed by AFROSAI-E, which outlines the knowledge and skills of accountants and auditors, and provides guidance for professional accounting organisations incorporating this into their qualifications.

The initiative was recently discussed at the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) Capacity Building Committee (CBC) meeting as well as the Task Force for INTOSAI Auditor Professionalization (TFIAP) meeting in Washington, USA in September 2017.
