Grant Thornton UK has appointed Sue Almond head of assurance, effective 1 September, replacing Mark Cardiff, now head of practice development.

After a six-year stint at the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Almond returns to the UK firm where she had already spent 20 years of her career, from 1988 to 2009.

At ACCA she served as technical director and more recently as external affairs director.

In 2014 she was recognised as one of the top 50 global industry influencers by the readers of The Accountant and International Accounting Bulleting, who saw in her technical knowledge a driving force to spark debate over audit and accounting issues.
