Ed McKeever, who is an Olympic sprint kayaker
for the Team GB and an Association of Chartered Certified
Accountants (ACCA) student, hopes to secure a gold medal when he
competes in the Kayak Single (K1) 200m on the 10 August.

McKeever, a former World and European champion
in K1 200m, first represented the Team GB at the 2001 Junior World
Championships in Brazil in 2001.

The 29-year-old has a BA Hons in Accountancy
and Finance and is also hoping to successfully pass the ACCA’s
professional exams soon so he can achieve his other career goal of
becoming a chartered accountant.

“He has sat and passed his exams while
training, competing and beating the world’s best. Everyone at ACCA
wishes Ed the best for next week and hope he can bring home the
gold for Great Britain,” ACCA UK head Andrew Leck said.

McKeever said that some athletes compete in
kayaking up until their late thirties.

“I’m not sure I fancy doing it for that long –
I think I’ll be ready to sit at a desk by then. Accountancy will be
a whole new challenge,” the aspiring accountant and medallist
said.
