David Frederick has been appointed as the 40th president of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT).

Frederick will remain AAT president until September 2021, with Heather Hill taking over his role as vice president.

Commenting on his appointment, Frederick said: “I am incredibly honoured to have been elected President of AAT.

“I’ve very much enjoyed my time as Vice President, particularly meeting members and students and supporting John in his role. I look forward to working closely with Mark and the senior management team to help steer the future direction of the organisation, and to represent AAT throughout the coming year. With businesses across the world going through a time of significant change, I look forward to leading AAT in meeting these challenges and finding new opportunities, as well as continuing to have a real impact on the lives of students past and present in the UK and around the world.”

Frederick began his career working as a trainee accountant in the public sector, before becoming a senior then principal lecturer and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) course director at London Metropolitan University, a role he held for 18 years lecturing on professional, undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

He has been an AAT council member since 2014.
