The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) has named Katie Close as director of tax.
The appointment places her in charge of the organisation’s tax team and the coordination of technical content and resources for more than 24,000 members working in over 85 countries.

Her responsibilities include overseeing technical resources, leading policy work, and supporting ICAS’s thought leadership efforts on taxation.
She will also work to maintain and expand relationships with HMRC and other government entities, ensuring ongoing dialogue between ICAS and policymakers.
Prior to joining ICAS, Katie was group head of tax at Systal Technology Solutions from October 2024, where she was responsible for managing tax compliance, governance, and planning across 28 countries.
Her earlier positions included senior roles at KCA Deutag and Aggreko.

Katie is a dual member of ICAS and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT). Her professional history includes receiving the ICAS Gold Medal in 2015, awarded by the ICAS Council for sustained achievement within accountancy or public life.

Recently, ICAS announced that Gail Boag will become CEO starting from 1 January 2026. Bruce Cartwright, CEO since 2018, will remain with ICAS until March 2026 during the transition period.
