Hambley is currently a civil service commissioner and non-executive board member. Prior to that, she was on the executive board of the Government Legal Department and was its Commercial, Trade and International Directorate director-general.

Over the course of her civil service career, she has headed legal teams in several Whitehall departments.

Wood, who joined the ICAEW Board as an independent non-executive in June 2019, has been made an honorary member of the institute in recognition of his service to the profession and to the organisation.

He is the 12th person to receive honorary membership in the ICAEW’s 146-year history.

ICAEW Board chair Peter Wyman said: “I am delighted that Malcolm Wood has become an honorary member of ICAEW and commend him for his outstanding contribution to the institute.

“I would also like to welcome Elizabeth Hambley to the board as an independent non-executive board member.

“Elizabeth brings extensive experience from her career in the legal profession and at the highest levels of government.”

Commenting on her appointment, Hambley said: “I am delighted and honoured to join the ICAEW Board.

“I look forward to working with Peter, non-executive colleagues and the ICAEW team to support the board’s continued focus on operating with integrity, transparency and impact, for the benefit of its members and in the public interest.”

The ICAEW recently announced several major appointments. Earlier this month, it appointed Caroline Smale as its president for 2026/27.
