Arora joins the forum with experience as a preparer at a “large multinational”, including work on implementing global accounting standards and supporting IFRS adoption.

She is currently serving as director of Accounting Policy and Financial Reporting at IBM, where she leads a team that oversees the assessment and consistent application of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles policies and the rollout of new International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) accounting standards.

In this role, she is responsible for developing technical accounting positions that support IBM’s Securities and Exchange Commission-compliant financial reporting and monitoring the uniform application of IFRS policies.

Prior to joining IBM, Arora held technical accounting roles at Deloitte and Infosys.

The GPF operates independently of the IASB and the IFRS Foundation and is intended to give the IASB regular input from preparers of financial statements worldwide.

An IFRS statement said: “GPF members are established commentators on accounting matters and have considerable practical experience of financial reporting, either through their careers or by their work with representative bodies.

“Members are drawn from a variety of industry and geographical backgrounds and are selected by the GPF on the merits of their professional competence and practical preparer experience to contribute to the development of high-quality global accounting standards.”

Last month, the IASB issued an Exposure Draft setting out a limited amendment to the IFRS for SMEs [small and medium-sized enterprises] Accounting Standard.

The change would add a consolidation exemption for specific intermediate parent companies.
