The heads of supreme audit institutions from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states have gathered in Manama, Bahrain, for their 23rd meeting to discuss closer cooperation, the Kuwait News Agency reported.
The meeting addressed ways to bolster oversight, improve institutional performance and increase cooperation among GCC audit authorities.

Kuwait’s delegation was led by State Audit Bureau President Essam Al-Roumi.
Saud Al-Zamanan, acting assistant undersecretary for administrative, financial and legal affairs and prior audit at the State Audit Bureau, said GCC countries were pursuing joint efforts to develop oversight work and improve the Gulf audit system.
He was quoted by the news agency as saying that cooperation and closer integration between the audit institutions “demonstrated their commitment” to respond to changing requirements and advance joint work in auditing and accounting.
The meeting approved topics for the seventh GCC competition for research and studies in auditing and accounting.
Delegates also considered a report on a study of recommendations from the research papers that won awards in the competition’s sixth edition.
A GCC Secretariat General report on training programmes conducted in 2025 and 2026 was also reviewed at the meeting.
It further covered activities scheduled by GCC supreme audit institutions for the Gulf Week for Financial and Administrative Oversight.
Additionally, the audit institutions’ heads approved a recommendation from the undersecretaries’ 27th meeting to send a proposed project back to the technical committee for further consideration.
The project involves creating an AI-powered electronic platform to hold the outputs of the GCC Committee of Supreme Audit Institutions.
Al-Zamanan said the proposal would be examined further by specialists in administrative, financial, legal and technical fields.
