Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) has cemented a partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Reciprocal Membership Arrangement, facilitating a pathway for Pakistani accountants to gain Canadian CPA designation.
This move is on behalf of the CPA provincial and territorial bodies as well as Chartered Professional Accountants of Bermuda.
The collaboration is set to open doors for Pakistani accounting professionals and enrich the Canadian business landscape with accounting experts.
Under the terms of the MOU, ICAP members who have achieved their qualifications outside of Canada may be granted advanced standing within the Canadian CPA certification programme.
This arrangement is contingent upon meeting certain criteria including the payment of applicable fees and dues, as well as satisfying good character requirements.
The educational and examination prerequisites for ICAP members include holding a recognised university degree and successful completion of the ICAP programme or having at least eight years of relevant experience in CPA technical competency areas.

By GlobalDataAdditionally, candidates must pass the Canadian CPA profession’s Common Final Examination (CFE) within three attempts, or face deregistration.
For ICAP members with more than two years of post-designation professional accounting experience, admission to the Canadian CPA body will be granted without further review of their practical experience.
Those with less experience will undergo an evaluation of their pre and post-qualification practical experience, all of which must have been acquired while being a member or student of the ICAP.
Furthermore, ICAP members seeking Canadian CPA membership must also meet any additional requirements specific to the provincial or regional CPA body where they apply.
This development follows CPA Canada’s recent announcement of CPA Canada Connects, an initiative aimed at enhancing the professional development of Canadian CPAs.
