Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) has reported that 4,188 CPA students passed the common final examination (CFE) written in September 2025.
The CFE is a multi-day assessment designed to evaluate candidates’ technical competence, analytical abilities and ethical judgement.

Within the list of successful candidates, the honour roll recognises the top 1% of writers at the national level.
The highest-scoring candidate in this sitting was Beth Klassen from PwC in Calgary, Alberta, who received the Governor General’s Gold Medal Award together with a $5,000 cash prize.
Klassen said: “I was busy at work when I got the call informing me that I had won the national gold medal, so it came as a complete shock. After hanging up the phone, I wasn’t convinced I’d heard it correctly until one of the Partners at PwC Calgary told me for a second time.
“It was so exciting to hear the news and to celebrate with everyone whose support throughout the CFE journey made this possible.”

By GlobalDataIn addition, 56 other candidates achieved results that placed them on the honour roll, and regional gold medals were awarded to those with the strongest performance in each jurisdiction.
Each regional gold medallist receives a $2,500 cash prize.
The named recipients are: Samuel Delaney in Atlantic Canada from Doane Grant Thornton, Moncton; Charles Lucas Distefano in Ontario from KPMG, Toronto; Xavier Cyr in Québec from Olivia Capital, Terrebonne.
CPA Canada president and CEO Pamela Steer said: “It takes an unwavering commitment to excellence to reach this level. These remarkable individuals have met one of the most challenging milestones in the profession, proving they are ready to take on critical roles and contribute meaningfully to organisations and communities across the country.”
