In a statement, CPA Canada said Steer’s selection recognises the organisation’s “leadership in global discussions”.

GAA CEO Jim Knafo said: “Pamela brings a strong record of global leadership and an unwavering commitment to international engagement.

“Her appointment comes at a critical moment for the profession, as we work together across jurisdictions to anticipate change and serve the public interest.”

Steer will head the GAA’s work on information exchange, coordination and advocacy during what the organisation describes as a sensitive period for both the profession and the wider global economy.

Commenting on her appointment, Steer said: “This recognition underscores CPA Canada’s growing influence on the global stage.

“International engagement allows us to share Canadian expertise while bringing global insights back to strengthen the profession at home – helping ensure our members stay ahead of emerging issues and leading practices.”

According to its website, the GAA was formed in 2005 to bring together ten leading professional accountancy bodies representing members active in major capital markets.

The alliance provides a platform for its members to exchange insights and coordinate on shared priorities.

Recently, CPA Canada appointed eight new directors to its board as it transitioned to a new governance model from this month.

The new appointees are Allan Donald, Danielle Laramée, Darrell Jensen, Edward Waitzer, Karen Gosse, Karen Higgins, Kevin Ladner and Kristen Carscallen.
