The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) will stop offering Level 7 apprenticeships to new students following a change in the UK Government’s Growth and Skills Levy.
CIMA said that its new move will be effective after the government’s new standard is implemented on 18 December 2026.

However, the institute noted that students already enrolled in its apprenticeship programmes will not be affected and will continue to receive full support until they complete their pathway.
The decision follows policy changes and subsequent discussions with employers, tuition providers, Skills England and the Department for Education.
Under the revised funding rules, eligibility for Level 7 apprenticeships is expected to fall significantly.
The new policy will focus on people aged 16–21, alongside certain eligible learners aged 22–24.
In response to the changes, CIMA said that many employers have revised how they support staff pursuing CIMA’s CGMA Professional Qualification.
The institute’s Level 4 apprenticeship provision will remain unchanged and continue to offer an entry route into the finance and accounting profession.
CIMA UK, Ireland and Europe vice-president Paul Turner said: “We are disappointed by the government’s changes, and the decision to close Level 7 apprenticeships to new enrolments was not taken lightly.
“CIMA has long championed apprenticeships as a route into the profession and will continue to support existing Level 7 learners alongside our Level 4 routes.
“Skills development remains central to our mission. We are committed to opening clear, flexible and accessible routes to the CGMA Professional Qualification, working with employers, tuition providers and students to build the finance talent businesses need now and in the future.”
