The European Commission has launched a
consultation to improve the disclosure of non-financial information
by companies.
The consultation comes after recent calls to
improve the comparability, reliability and relevance of
non-financial information disclosed by companies in sustainability
or annual reports.
Reporting corporate, social and environmental
information is intended to enhance the accountability of companies
and increase transparency. However, there is a concern that this
will add to the length of annual reports, already considered by
many to be too long, increasing the administrative burden of a
company.
The consultation is open until 24 January
2011.
