The Council of the European Union has
appointed Gijs de Vries as a member of the European Court of
Auditors.

De Vries will replace Maarten Engwirda, who
has served as a member of the court since 1996.

De Vries, who was nominated by Dutch
authorities, will begin his term in January, which runs until 31
December 2013.
