The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has appointed Berry Wammes as chair of its Professional Accountancy Organisation (PAO) Development Advisory Group.
Wammes will begin a three-year term on 1 January 2027, succeeding outgoing chair Jelena Misita.

The Royal Netherlands Institute of Chartered Accountants, an IFAC member, nominated Wammes.
The IFAC board confirmed the appointment on the recommendation of the IFAC Nominating Committee.
The PAO Development Advisory Group consists of specialists with experience in working with professional accountancy organisations and supporting their capacity development.
The group provides strategic advice and contributes to the IFAC’s efforts to support the development of “sustainable PAOs” through knowledge sharing, collaboration and resource development.
Wammes said: “The PAO Development Advisory Group brings together leaders with deep experience of the opportunities and challenges PAOs face in their own jurisdictions.
“I look forward to learning from their perspectives and experience, while helping create more opportunities for PAOs to learn from one another.
“Working together, we can turn that shared knowledge into practical support that reflects local contexts and strengthens the profession globally.”

Other IFAC advisory groups include the International Panel on Accountancy Education, chaired by Sinéad Donovan; the Professional Accountants in Business Advisory Group, chaired by Josephine Okui Ossiya; and the Small and Medium Practices Advisory Group, chaired by Helene Agélii.
In February, the IFAC appointed new members to its advisory groups for 2026.
