The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has launched a joint apprenticeship programme with PwC UK and BPP.
The degree level apprenticeship in management accounting has been designed for A-level school leavers.

Participants will study for the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting qualification as well as experience business training in team working, project management and leadership skills.

Skills Minister Matthew Hancock explained the programme "will be for young people who want to pursue a career in management accounting but feel University isn’t for them."

"It is our ambition to make it the norm for school leavers to either go to University or to do an Apprenticeship. Higher Apprenticeships like this are crucial to making that a reality", he said.

The framework also could "enable firms in the professional services industry to diversify their traditional workforce and to attract and invest in talented young people," according to National Apprentice Service executive director David Way.

The first roles in the degree apprenticeship programme are anticipated to be available and adopted by firms in September 2013.
