The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has selected Mahbub Ahmed Siddique as a member of its Professional Accountancy Organization Development & Advisory Group (PAODAG) for the 2026-2028 term, reported Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

Currently, Siddique is chief operating officer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB).

The appointment from Bangladesh comes after a multi-stage global selection process by the IFAC Nominating Committee.

Siddique’s responsibilities as a PAODAG member include offering guidance and support to professional accountancy organisations (PAOs) in various countries.

This position involves assisting PAOs to strengthen their operations, ensure sustainability, and improve their ability to serve public interest.

He currently also acts as ICAB nominated director at SAFA Foundation and holds the post of marketing director at Chartered Accountants Worldwide.

In his ongoing work, Siddique is serving as assistant executive secretary at the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) for 2025 on behalf of ICAB.

He will move into the executive secretary role for SAFA in 2026.

Siddique began his tenure at the ICAB in 2008 as deputy director (technical).

He advanced to senior deputy director (technical) in 2011 and was promoted to director (technical) in 2013.

From 27 September 2020 to 30 November 2020, he served as Secretary & CEO (In Charge) of ICAB while continuing in his capacity as director (technical).

Since 1 December 2020, he has been serving the position of chief operating officer (COO) at ICAB.

Prior to joining ICAB, Siddique worked with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), where he served as a consultant for the World Bank-funded ICAB-ICAEW Twinning Project.

His professional experience also includes a role in the finance division at Telecom Malaysia International Bangladesh (AKTEL).

Siddique has facilitated numerous professional development programmes, particularly focusing on quality assurance, IFRS, ISA, the Code of Ethics, and other relevant laws and professional standards.

He has also taught various levels of chartered accountancy courses at both ICAB and ICAEW.
