David Styles has been appointed to director of corporate governance at the UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC), effective 6 May 2014.

Styles has spent the past 30 years working in the civil service at the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.

He is currently assistant director in the department’s Environment Regulation team, and has previously served as assistant director in Corporate Law and Governance Directorate, with responsibility for policy on directors’ remuneration, shareholders’ rights and corporate governance.

Styles will replace Chris Hodge, who became the FRC’s executive director of strategy on 1 January 2014.
