Lau, appointed head of inspection in October 2024 after joining the former Financial Reporting Council in 2019, will retain that role at the AFRC following the appointment.

The AFRC welcomed the decision.

Commenting on the appointment by HKSAR, AFRC chairman David Sun said: “Eva possesses extensive hands-on experience in audit practice and regulatory inspection, and the board and I look forward to working closely with her in her new role.”

The HKSAR Government recently extended the tenures of 12 professionals on the AFRC Advisory Committee.

The reappointed members officially began an additional two-year term on 1 August 2026, which is scheduled to run through 31 July 2028.

The AFRC’s Advisory Committee consists of a diverse mix of industry practitioners, service users and key stakeholders from the accounting sector. It offers a wide range of expertise to support the AFRC’s work, particularly in areas aligned with its current regulatory agenda.

The committee advises the AFRC on policy issues regarding its statutory goals and functions.

In July, the AFRC and the Securities Commission Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance audit oversight and cooperation on financial reporting compliance.

The agreement establishes a framework for consultation, information exchange and mutual assistance between the two regulators. It covers oversight of auditors and issuers’ compliance with financial reporting obligations administered or enforced by either party.
