CA Sri Lanka president Tishan Subasinghe and BASL president Rajeev Amarasuriya signed the MoU at the BASL office in Colombo.
The partnership is designed to create a structured platform for members of both bodies to engage on issues of shared concern, reflecting the growing overlap between legal, financial and regulatory matters in the current business landscape.
CA Sri Lanka and BASL plan to identify and pursue joint initiatives such as continuing professional development programmes and knowledge-sharing events.
The two bodies also plan to hold technical discussions and other capacity-building efforts to bolster the skills and capabilities of their memberships.
At the signing event, Subasinghe underlined the need for stronger ties between the two professions.
Subasinghe, who assumed responsibility in January this year, said: “As the business environment continues to evolve, there is significant value in our professions working together to support organisations, strengthen governance and contribute to the country’s development.”
Amarasuriya stated: “This is a historic agreement and the first formal collaboration of its kind between BASL and CA Sri Lanka.
“As the legal and accounting professions increasingly operate within overlapping regulatory and commercial environments, it is important that we work together to share knowledge, strengthen professional competencies and address matters of mutual interest.”
