The European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) has restarted work on a sustainability reporting standard for non-EU corporate groups, under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

The standard will apply to non-EU groups with “significant EU activities” as set out in Article 40a of the Accounting Directive.

EFRAG plans to publish the draft non-EU ESRS (N-ESRS) Group Sustainability Reporting Standard for consultation in the second half of July 2026.

The consultation will run for 100 days and allow stakeholders to comment on the proposed disclosure framework for non-EU groups active in the EU market.

EFRAG is also seeking companies willing to join a field test of the exposure draft as part of its standard-setting due process.

The field test will assess how feasible and workable the draft rules are, including aspects such as interoperability, the mixed approach and international use of EU references.

Participating companies will simulate application of the N-ESRS Exposure Draft and then complete a questionnaire on feasibility, relevance of outcomes, challenges faced and possible improvements.

The questionnaire must be submitted within 70 days from the start of the field test, which will begin once the Exposure Draft is released.

Companies will receive detailed instructions and a tailored questionnaire to be finalised by the end of September.

EFRAG will then hold one-to-one interviews with participating companies in October 2026, during the final 30 days of the consultation.

In parallel, EFRAG will host a series of educational webinars in the second half of July 2026 across multiple time zones.
